Health Benefits Of Corn

Corn provides many health benefits due to the presence of quality nutrients within. Besides being a delicious addition to any meal, it is rich in phytochemicals and provides protection against a number of chronic diseases. The well-researched and widespread health benefits of corn are listed below.

Prevents Hemorrhoids

The fiber content of one cup of corn amounts to 18.4% of the daily recommended amount. This aids in alleviating digestive problems [2]such as constipation and hemorrhoids, as well as lowering the risk of colon cancer due to corn being a whole-grain.

Fiber has long been promoted as a way to reduce colon risk, but insufficient and conflicting data exist for fiber’s relationship with preventing [3] cancer, although whole-grain consumption has been proven to reduce that risk. Fiber helps bulk up bowel movements, which stimulates peristaltic motion and the production of gastric juice and bile. It can also add bulk to overly loose stools, which can reduce the chances of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and diarrhea.

Promotes Growth

Corn is rich [4] in vitamin B constituents, especially thiamin and niacin. Thiamin is essential for maintaining nerve health and cognitive function. Niacin deficiency leads to pellagra; a disease characterized by diarrhea, dementia, and dermatitis that is commonly observed in malnourished individuals. Corn is also a good source of pantothenic acid, which is an essential vitamin for carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism in the body.

Deficiency of folic acid in pregnant women can lead to the birth of underweight infants and may also result in neural tube defects in newborns. Corn provides a large percentage of the daily folate requirement, thus preventing this condition. The kernels of corn are rich in vitamin E, a natural antioxidant that is essential for growth and protection of the body from illness and diseases.Corn12

Weight Gain

Corn is a rich source of calories and is a staple in many places. The calorific content [1] of corn is 342 calories per 100 grams, which is among the highest for cereals. This is why, it is often turned to for quick weight gain, and combined with the ease and flexibility of growing conditions for corn, the high-calorie content makes it vital for the survival of dozens of agricultural nations.

Provides Essential Minerals

Corn contains [5] abundant minerals which positively benefit the body in a number of ways. Phosphorus, along with magnesiummanganesezinciron, and copper are found in all varieties of corn. It also contains trace minerals like selenium, which are difficult to find in most normal diets. Phosphorus is essential for regulating normal growth, bone health, and optimal kidney functioning. Magnesium is necessary for maintaining a normal heart rate and for increasing bone mineral density.

Prevents Cancer

According to studies carried out at Cornell University, corn is a rich source of antioxidants which fight cancer-causing free radicals. Unlike many other foods, cooking actually increases the number of usable antioxidants in sweet corn. It is a rich source of a phenolic compound called ferulic acid, an anti-carcinogenic agent that has been shown to be effective in fighting tumors that lead to breast and liver cancer. Anthocyanins, found in purple corn, also act as scavengers of cancer-causing free radicals. Antioxidants have been shown to reduce many of the dangerous forms of cancer because of their ability to induce [6] apoptosis in cancerous cells while leaving healthy cells unaffected. This is particularly relevant when phytochemicals are the source of the antioxidants, which is another type of chemical found in high volumes in corn.

Protects Your Heart

According to researchers, corn oil has been shown to have an anti-atherogenic effect on cholesterol levels, thus reducing the risk of various cardiovascular diseases. Corn oil, in particular, is the best way to improve heart health and this is derived from the fact that corn is close to an optimal fatty acid combination. This allows omega-3 fatty acids to strip away the damaging LDL or bad cholesterol and replace them at the binding sites. This will reduce the chances of arteries becoming clogged, reduce blood pressure, and lower the chances of heart attack and stroke.

Prevents Anemia

Corn helps prevent anemia caused by a deficiency of these vitamins. It also has a significant level [7] of iron, which is one of the essential minerals needed to form new red blood cells; a deficiency of iron is one of the main causes of anemia as well.

Lowers LDL Cholesterol

According to the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, [8] consumption of corn husk oil lowers plasma LDL or bad cholesterol by reducing cholesterol absorption [9] in the body. As mentioned earlier, this reduction in LDL cholesterol does not mean a reduction in HDL or good cholesterol, which can have beneficial effects on the body. They include the reduction of heart diseases, prevention of atherosclerosis, and a general scavenging of free radicals throughout the body.

Image result for Eye & Skin Care cartoon

Eye & Skin Care

Yellow corn is a rich source [10] of beta-carotene, which forms vitamin A in the body and is essential for the maintenance of good vision and skin. Beta-carotene is a great source of vitamin A because it is converted within the body according to the amount required by it. Vitamin A can be toxic if too much is consumed, so deriving it through beta-carotene transformation is ideal. It will also benefit the health of skin and mucous membranes, as well as boost the immune system.

The amount of beta-carotene in the body that is not converted into vitamin A acts as a very strong antioxidant, like all carotenoids, and can combat terrible diseases like cancer and heart disease. That being said, smokers need to be careful about their beta-carotene content, because smokers with high beta-carotene levels are more likely to contract lung cancer, while non-smokers with high beta-carotene content are less likely to contract lung cancer.

Controls Diabetes

In recent decades, the world has seemed to suffer from an epidemic of diabetes. Although the exact mechanism for this cannot be pinpointed, it is generally related to nutrition. Studies [11] have shown that the consumption of corn kernels assists in the management of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and is effective against hypertension due to the presence of phenolic phytochemicals in whole corn. Phytochemicals can regulate the absorption and release [12] of insulin in the body, which can reduce the chance of spikes and drops for diabetic patients and help them maintain a normal lifestyle.

Cornstarch is used in the manufacturing of many cosmetic products and may also be applied topically to soothe skin rashes and irritation. Corn products can be used to replace carcinogenic petroleum products which are major components of many cosmetic preparations. Many of the traditional skin creams contain petroleum jelly as a base material, which can often block pores and make skin conditions even worse.

In the beginning of its life corn was not grown, it was created, The corn crop we see today, is one the first man created crops because it cannot exquisite without man intervention,  it took man over 10.000 years to create, and its become a world wide staple, and everyone eats, use, and interact with corn every single day of their lives.  This product is so versatile that it’s used in almost any and everything to eat, use on our bodies and use for transportation and more.  It’s so valuable that nothing is wasted, every bit of  every part of the corn is used to make something new.  In this blog I will tell the story of the evolution of the maize to the product we call corn, and how today, we use it for many different product that you didn’t realize.

Evolution of Corn

The history of modern-day maize begins at the dawn of human agriculture, about 10,000 years ago. Ancient farmers in what is now Mexico took the first steps in domesticating maize when they simply chose which kernels (seeds) to plant. These farmers noticed that not all plants were the same. Some plants may have grown larger than others, or maybe some kernels tasted better or were easier to grind. The farmers saved kernels from plants with desirable characteristics and planted them for the next season’s harvest. This process is known as selective breeding or artificial selection. Maize cobs became larger over time, with more rows of kernels, eventually taking on the form of modern maize.

The identity of maize’s wild ancestor remained a mystery for many decades. While other grains such as wheat and rice have obvious wild relatives, there is no wild plant that looks like maize, with soft, starchy kernels arranged along a cob. The abrupt appearance of maize in the archaeological record baffled scientists. Evolution was generally thought to occur gradually through minor changes. Why did maize appear so suddenly?

 MISCONCEPTION
Evolution is always slow and gradual.
 REALITY
Minor changes to influential genes can produce rapid evolutionary changes.

Through Genetic Archaeology We See That Teosinte and Maize are Alike

Through the study of genetics, we know today that corn’s wild ancestor is a grass called teosinte. Teosinte doesn’t look much like maize, especially when you compare its kernals to those of corn. But at the DNA level, the two are surprisingly alike. They have the same number of chromosomes and a remarkably similar arrangement of genes. In fact, teosinte can cross-breed with modern maize varieties to form maize-teosinte hybrids that can go on to reproduce naturally.

Scientists study teosinte-maize hybrids and their offspring through the process of genetic archaeology. This process helps geneticists understand what is happening at the DNA level to make teosinte and maize so different. By combining clues from genetics and the archaeological record, scientists have pieced together much of the story of maize evolution.

Image result for The Difference Between Teosinte and Maize is About 5 Genes

The Difference Between Teosinte and Maize is About 5 Genes

One of the first scientists to fully appreciate the close relationship between teosinte and maize was George Beadle. In the 1930s, Beadle studied teosinte-maize hybrids and showed that their chromosomes are highly compatible. Later, he produced large numbers of teosinte-corn hybrids and observed the characteristics of their offspring. By applying basic laws of genetic inheritance, Beadle calculated that only about 5 genes were responsible for the most-notable differences between teosinte and a primitive strain of maize.

Using more-modern techniques, another group of scientists analyzed the DNA from teosinte-maize offspring. They too noticed that about 5 regions of the genome (which could be single genes or groups of genes) seemed to be controlling the most-significant differences between teosinte and maize.

In recent years, geneticists have used advanced molecular-biology tools to pinpoint the roles of some of the genes with large effects, as well as many other regions across the genome that have had subtle effects on maize domestication.

Changes to Single Genes Can Have Dramatic Effects

The earliest events in maize domestication likely involved small changes to single genes with dramatic effects. We know the events were early because there is little variation in these genes between maize varieties, suggesting that modern varieties are descended from a single ancestor. That the small changes had dramatic effects also explains the sudden appearance of maize in the archaeological record. These examples show us that evolution doesn’t always involve gradual change over time.

Small Changes Add Up Over Time

Later changes in the evolution of modern maize involved many genes (perhaps thousands) with small effects. These minor changes include the following:

  • Types and amounts of starch production
  • Ability to grow in different climates and types of soil
  • Length and number of kernel rows
  • Kernel size, shape, and color
  • Resistance to pests

These examples fit with the traditional view of evolution as gradual change over time. Local groups of farmers selected for characteristics that they preferred, and that worked best in their particular environment. Over thousands of years, selective breeding generated the broad diversity of corn varieties that are still grown around the world today.

Honorary Doctorate Degrees, How Honorable Are They? Part V To V

The Battle of The Academic and The Honorary Doctorate Degree within The Black Church

      Related image

Reader what is the purpose of an honorary degree? Is it the same as having the actual degree? Do you have to pay for it? Those are some of the many questions that were asked under Erica Campbell Facebook post.

While they’re a nice recognition and probably look good hanging on the wall, honorary degrees are not ‘real’ degrees; in other words, being awarded an honorary degree is not the same as earning an actual doctorate. In fact, an honorary degree is a degree honoris causa, Latin for ‘for the sake of the honor’. They are not used to further one’s career, fatten one’s bank account or dress up one’s resume. If anything, honorary degrees draw more attention to the college or university bestowing the honor, since it ties them to the (usually famous or well-known) recipient. In this case “Next Dimension University.”

  • Ann all the pastors I know who are called “Doctor” actually have an earned doctorate, usually a Doctor of Ministry. I know others who don’t have doctorates who get just as much respect as those who do. They are called “Reverend.”
  • So that’s how it works in the United Methodist Church. However, I’m aware that there are some pastors in some of the other churches who are called “Doctor” and don’t have an earned degree. One was Jerry Falwell, who was always called “Dr. Falwell” and had only honorary doctorates.
  • Sometimes they have online “degrees.” I even found a website offering a free online “Doctor of Divinity” degree certificate to anyone professing to be a Christian who signs a statement of faith, provides a “certificate of authenticity,” and has seven years experience in ministry. I won’t link to that one – wouldn’t want to tempt anybody.
  • Why do they do it? I can only assume they think this provides them credibility and gets them more respect.
  • Taking a more honest approach is Billy Graham, one of the most well-known Christian ministers. He has a number of honorary degrees, but his only earned degree is a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College. He’s often referred to as “Dr. Graham” by people who apparently believe that such an esteemed personage deserves the title. He doesn’t seem to think he needs it through – the website of his own Billy Graham Evangelistic Association refers to him as “Mr. Graham” in his bio: Billy Graham.

    • The people that actually EARN the title of Doctor spent a fortune in cost and almost a decade of their lives to earn that title.
    • That is some well earned pretentiousness, regardless of their chosen field.
  • Dr. Barbara White:Sunday, 20 August, 2017
  • “The Dr. Campbells” Erica need to sit her butt down, they are not doctors.
  • I wish this issue received wider attention. As one who worked very diligently to legitimately obtain a Doctor of Ministry degree from an accredited and well-respected seminary (Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, OH), I take extreme exception to the many “ministers” who flaunt titles that they have not earned. This deliberate deception is shameful for those who call themselves men and women of God. I would be very pleased to see the church begin “policing” itself—in other words, call these individuals out for the frauds that they are.

  • If you didn’t EARN your degree from a nationally accredited school, it’s not valid. An honorary degree is intended to be a kind gesture, not a recognition of academic achievement. Degrees from bible institutes do not satisfy the federal requirement for any type of degree. Credits earned at those schools are not transferable or recognized in matriculated degree programs. They’re basically worthless.

  • One of my pet-peeves of the church today is the abuse of titles of people to puff themselves up.
  • Most (around 75%) of the popular pastors and people in the gospel industry that call themselves Doctor have NEVER ACTUALLY EARNED THE TITLE.
  • From TD Jakes to Juanita Bynum these “HONORABLE” men & women of God LIE EVERY DAY by CLAIMING the title of DOCTOR.
  • But they are RARELY (if ever) confronted on the issue.
  • These “EDUCATED PEOPLE” 🙄 fall into 3 categories.
  • 1: Doctorate from an UN-ACCREDITED SCHOOL. Which doesn’t allow someone to officially use the title of Doctorate. Often these degrees cost just a few hundred dollars and completed in a year or 2, with no educational standard of knowledge received.
  • Ex: TD Jakes, Benny Hinn, Joyce Meyer & Fred Price and his wife.
  • 2: HONORARY DOCTORATES, other than helping to support the school financially, HONORARY DOCTORATES MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. They wrote a check. THAT’S IT!!! They are no more knowledgeable, enlightened or harder working than anyone else. They are just generous LIARS.
  • EX: Juanita Bynum, & Kelly Price. Just to show you how useless an honorary doctorate can be. Miss Piggy, Mickey Mouse, and Spock (ALL FICTIONAL CHARACTERS) have honorary degrees.
  • 3: FINALLY YOUR PURE LIARS. These people just started calling themselves “Doctor”cause it looked good. No two ways about it they are LIARS.
  • EX: Cindy Trimm and BEFORE she was given the honorary, Juanita Bynum was already claiming her doctorate.

    • I feel when a person insists on using the title Dr. when it is not legitimate/earned speaks to the character and integrity of the person who does it.
    • It is quite another thing when the church world labels someone Dr. because of their effectiveness in their area of ministry. Examples: Mattie Moss Clark, Judith Christie-McAllister. Sometimes the church confers the title Dr. on preachers, but it is not the preacher labeling himself, the people label him/her.

Most individuals have done work equivalent to the integrity of the Doctorate but not given credit for it nor paid for it. Is it fair to condemn their works?

Albert Einstein: Has A Honorary Degree? Yes. and when you considered that you come to the conclusion, “Ok, all Great minds should receive honorary doctorates,” and “What’s the Problem!!!”   Yeah, nobody will fight that discoveries like that deserve some recognition, and with understanding that he made great strides in the scientific field, “Why Not Him.” His discoveries helps humanity, his honorary degree have some validity to it.

Then we look at other people in the last twenty-five years  receiving honorary degrees, you started to wonder, people like: R. Kelly, Mike Tyson, And Muppets Kermit The Frog, It’s also rumored that Donald Duck has a honorary doctorate, WOW!!! Then you start asking question!!!

Questions like: Where is the honor in that? So with every person, every organization, every group, and every non-human character, getting a Honorary Doctorate? Then you look around, and see the honor of it gets saturated and watered down by so many recipients and realize it’s been stretched to the point, that its without value.

Image result for colleges passing out degrees on a conveyor belt cartoon

Also the most pathetic conclusion is that colleges hands them out: Not for expertise, genius, as they did in the earlier years.  It’s just about plain old greed, because if a university add a star like Tom Cruise to your alumni list, with all the people that like him, you can “sit back and watch the student’s and dollars roll in.”  That’s so sad, because we know, once you add money to the equation, it just sours up or takes away from the entire Idea of honor and then because it’s almost valueless with the saturation, it lost the last bit of honor with greed.  It’s also harmful to the integrity of the action of the giver and the receiver, because everybody gets hurt, when you have a greedy system like this: Next The academic, also lose because they have to defend their degree, which pushes the honorary degree holders into a very sad and hurtful position,  because most felt a feeling of respected and honored by receiving their degree, and Lastly the public gets hurt because we are misled, thinking that it because the celebrities have it, they earned it, through their life accomplishments, and it’s actually worthless.

Honorary Doctorate Degrees, How Honorable Are They? Part IV Of V

It is not in the least bit unusual for these popular icons to be offered more than one honorary degree. Most U.S. Presidents have upwards of 10 apiece (George H.W. Bush has 32); Elizabeth Dole has 40. With 7 honorary degrees, J.K. Rowling has one for each of her “Harry Potter” books. Acclaimed actress Meryl Streep has more diplomas (4) than Oscars (3). Perhaps most impressively, Supreme Court member Ruth Bader Ginsburg has an honorary doctorate degree from every single Ivy League School, with the exception of Cornell, which doesn’t give them out.

Oftentimes, universities will offer these celebrities a degree in return for speaking at the commencement ceremony. Bill Cosby, of recent sexual allegation fame, has been awarded more than 100 honorary degrees — and in almost every case, he’s been expected to humor the audience. “The honorary doctorate — that’s lovely, he enjoys getting them,” his publicist told The New York Times in 1999, adding that Cosby actually does have a real Phd., ”but what’s important to him is getting the podium so he can can say something profound and funny to the students and their parents.”

But colleges’ incentive to offer degrees often goes far beyond securing speeches.??

Which leads us to another great Question???

Why Do Modern Universities Give Out Honorary Degrees Anyway?

Image result for ben affleck honorary degree

A little over a decade ago, Arthur E. Levine, president of Teachers College at Columbia University admitted that honorary degrees are about two things: money and publicity.

“Sometimes they are used to reward donors who have given money; sometimes they are used to draw celebrities to make the graduation special,” he told The New York Times. “I’ve always viewed it as a last lesson a college can teach, by showing examples of people who most represent the values the institution stands for.”

Last year, Burlington Free Press writer Tim Johnson compiled a list of every University of Vermont honorary degree recipient from 2002 to 2012, then dug into financial statements to see how much each of those individuals had contributed to the university in the decade preceding their “honor.” Here’s what he found:

“Of the 60 recipients, 35 were on the record as having made donations to the university, for a total of $13.6 million (an average of $228,248)…even excluding one degree recipient with an outsized $9 million contribution, the average was $68,854.”

His takeaway — that the university simply gave a degree to those who’d donated large sums of money — is no mystery. In another instance, after businessman J. Mack Robinson donated $10 million to Georgia State University’s School of Business, the school almost immediately rewarded him with a doctorate degree for his “outstanding contributions to the field of business.”

Aside from stroking the intellectual egos of wealthy donors, many universities see the honorary degree process as an opportunity to score some free publicity.

There is perhaps no greater example of this than when New York’s Southhampton College awarded an honorary doctorate in “amphibious letters” to Kermit the Frog in 1996. In the aftermath, 31 newspapers picked up the story, resulting in a “free marketing bonanza that raised the college’s profile and drew hundreds of new admissions.”

Amidst this controversy, some universities — notably Cornell, Stanford, and UCLA — choose not to participate. William Barton Rogers, the founder of MIT, regarded the practice of giving honorary degrees as “literary almsgiving…of spurious merit and noisy popularity.” To this day, the school does not award them.

Likewise, when Thomas Jefferson founded the University of Virginia, he explicitly banned honorary degrees, fearing that they would be awarded based on “political or religious enthusiasms rather than on scholarly considerations.” Today, instead of awarding honorary degrees, the University of Virginia presents the “Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal,” an honor that is entirely separated from any associations with a doctorate degree.

Still, these institutions are a minority in the vast sea of colleges that continue the practice of doling out honorary degrees. And today, Jefferson’s fears seem to be as valid as they were 200 years ago.

The controversy about honorary degrees are huge, however in the black church they are considered a badge of honor but with this honor it brings a lot of lies and deceit, it also exposes a long issues and black leadership.

The Controversy Of The Honorary Degree And The Black Church:

Image result for Black church

The black community is not without it problem, and some of its major issues is the idea of black community leadership.  From the ending of slavery to the inception of black homesteading, all americans believe the black church which is the anchor of the black community, the official place where the black leaders reside.

However this can be further from the truth; black might have a tendency to congregate at barber shops, beauty salons or parlors and at church, but this is not where the black community leadership base resides, this is only meeting places.  In past generations, it might seemed like this was the cases, such as the civil rights movement and other movements, the black church seemed to be the base for all strategy and organizing of movements, However the church building might have been used to congregate the people, because it was the  biggest place in the community. It can be said that this was where people had enough chair for individuals to sit down and talk out perspective issues. Also during these meetings black leaders, and top strategy people, assumed the role as leader, the pastors in the church were added to the conversation  because it was their church or they might have added, being a morale ear, for their oratory skills, they might be the ones to get the word out, but they were not the origin or the genesis of the message or the leader.

Image result for Black people in groups

All black movements start from grassroots message: as we see with SNCC “The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC, often pronounced /snɪk/ SNIK) was one of the major Civil Rights Movement organizations of the 1960s. It emerged from the first wave of student sit-ins and formed at an April 1960 meeting organized by Ella Baker at Shaw University.,”  There were no pastors or religious affiliations, in the inception of the latest, “Black Lives Matter Movement ” All the movements start with an issue or a problem, it’s talked through, its organized, the groups comes up with a strategy, implemented and then the black pastors follow, maybe because they want to be seen as progressive, or they get involve so they don’t  lose their congregations, they may later be put in to the position by outsiders, and act like they were origin of the message and the organizer of the movement: case and point “The March On Washington.”

Image result for The March On Washington

“The March On Washington” was made, prepared and designed by the grassroot, The Grassroots were people  tired of being treated badly, and when they thought that southern congressmen and senators were talking about filibustering the “Civil Rights Bill” They organized, as Malcolm X so eloquently put it in his speech “The Message To The Grassroots” Actual Dialog of The Actual Speech:

And Negroes was [sic] out there in the streets. They was [sic] talking about [how] we was [sic] going to march on Washington. By the way, right at that time Birmingham had exploded, and the Negroes in Birmingham — remember, they also exploded. They began to stab the crackers in the back and bust them up ‘side their head — yes, they did. That’s when Kennedy sent in the troops, down in Birmingham. So, and right after that, Kennedy got on the television and said “this is a moral issue.” That’s when he said he was going to put out a civil-rights bill. And when he mentioned civil-rights bill and the Southern crackers started talking about [how] they were going to boycott or filibuster it, then the Negroes started talking — about what? We’re going to march on Washington, march on the Senate, march on the White House, march on the Congress, and tie it up, bring it to a halt; don’t let the government proceed. They even said they was [sic] going out to the airport and lay down on the runway and don’t let no airplanes land. I’m telling you what they said. That was revolution. That was revolution. That was the black revolution.”

“It was the grass roots out there in the street. [It] scared the white man to death, scared the white power structure in Washington, D. C. to death; I was there. When they found out that this black steamroller was going to come down on the capital, they called in Wilkins; they called in Randolph; they called in these national Negro leaders that you respect and told them, “Call it off.” Kennedy said, “Look, you all letting this thing go too far.” And Old Tom said, “Boss, I can’t stop it, because I didn’t start it.” I’m telling you what they said. They said, “I’m not even in it, much less at the head of it.” They said, “These Negroes are doing things on their own. They’re running ahead of us.” And that old shrewd fox, he said, “Well If you all aren’t in it, I’ll put you in it. I’ll put you at the head of it. I’ll endorse it. I’ll welcome it. I’ll help it. I’ll join it.”

From it’s genesis  Martin Luther King never was a part of the conception nor the idea, of “The March On Washington.” but with President Kennedy help, he became the “sole purpose” of the march, and the speech he did,  didn’t have anything to do with the original, idea, or the march. He was used as a pawn/co-conspirator to distract from the original purpose of the march, and he used this opportunity as a vehicle to move his and The President’s  agenda, It was not the purpose of the black community but was made to look like it was.

With one action, of Martin Luther King, standing before the world, speaking and leading his people, this Idea of the black community being lead by the black pastor, in the black church was forged, and was sold to the country.  From that point on people believed, that the black communities leadership was bestowed on the “Black Pastor”.

After this great show of black pastor power, black pastors everywhere, felt that they were added to the conversation and they had to show that he/she  legitimacy as a leader, and what other way to show legitimate and power, than power of academic education.

So black pastors started going to colleges, seminaries, and universities in huge numbers.   One by one becoming educated, becoming the portrait of the educated elites, this was a great time for everyone in the black community, because it helped the church grow intellectually and brought the church into the modern age.

Meanwhile there was another group, that have been preaching for years, while the academics, toled with their studies, and felt that they were equal to, if not better than the new college, seminary, and university graduates, so they became grandfathered in, with Honorary Doctorate Degree.  That brings us to today and the battle of the Academic and The Honorary Doctorate Degree within The Black Church. This is a actual Facebook argument between academics and laypersons on the subject.
